The Inspiration Behind missfantasyfiction: Why I’m Starting this Blog
I started my bookstagram @missfantasyfiction almost exactly a year ago and I have LOVED connecting with book lovers everywhere, all over the world. Every time I get a comment on a post, or someone interacts with my reviews, I get a little jolt of excitement.
My ultimate favourite aspect of my bookstagram are my reviews. Reviews don’t necessarily do great engagement-wise (or so I’ve heard), but I don’t really care! I love writing them, and if even one person loves reading them, then hey! That’s enough for me.
The same goes for this blog. Writing this post has flowed from my fingertips so easily and that’s exactly what I wanted. First off, introductions. My name is Darcy, I’ve had my head stuck in a book ever since I can remember. My favourite genre is fantasy, hence missfantasyfiction, although I’m not limiting myself to just fantasy books reviews on this blog (but there you can expect a LOT of them). I’m a lover of dogs, and live with my Havanese and drink an unholy amount of tea every day.
I feel like bookstagram is sometimes a little wrapped up in the aesthetics of the content we’re all sharing. I definitely feel pressure for my photos to be as beautiful as possible. I do love matching the props to the books, fiddling around and finding the perfect post to share, but I also love to just write. I appreciate everything from the unaesthetic to the aesthetic, from the lengthy, in-depth reviews to the short n’ sweet ones. So that’s why I’m here! This blog is a pretty informal place for me to rant about whatever bookish things are on my mind that week. I’ll be posting reviews and recommendations, engaging with bookish discourse and partaking in trends.
I’ll start off right now; I’m currently reading Silver Elite by Dani Francis, a new dystopian romance where psychic gifts are a death sentence out this May. Now, I don’t know about you, but I was sold at ‘dystopian romance’. While I’m on the topic, can I make a plea for dystopia to return to popularity? I know, it had its moment in 2010, but as Taylor Swift once said, I’m still at that restaurant! (Another thing about me that you’ll quickly learn is I will quote Taylor at any given chance). Wow, we’ve already hit our first tangent of this new blog – that didn’t take long at all. Silver Elite has very distinct Divergent vibes, which may be controversial as some people had very strong opinions on that series back in the day. For me personally, it was a cornerstone of the literature I devoured growing up, and anything that gives me that sense of nostalgia, that illicitly reading under the covers late into the night, desperate to find out if Tris survives Dauntless, is a guaranteed good time.
I’m also ploughing my way, slowly but surely, through the Stormlight Archive. After falling in love with Mistborn in the latter half of last year, it wasn’t even a question that I needed more Brandon Sanderson in my life and boy, the man delivers content. He’s the living embodiment of ‘how do you write like you’re running out of time?” for all my Hamilton fans. The Stormlight Archive is so vast and broad that even at 400 pages into The Way of Kings, I can’t even begin to broach how I feel yet.
So welcome! I’ll wrap it up here today but I hope you stick around for far too many book reviews and recommendations than one person needs!
